Business Meeting

  1. The minutes from the October 17, 2007 meeting were approved as corrected. The November CONA Board meeting was canceled.
  2. David Walter reported treasury balances as follows: Checking: $1,052.83 and Savings: $7,274.78. One deposit of $500 was made and one check written for $700 for the Bryan Park Neighborhood Association's sidewalk project. Funds were donated to CONA by members of Bryan Park NA for this purpose in the amount of $750, so there is still $50 left in their account.
  3. David Walter reported that he had met with Irvin Union Bank about possible CD investments. Currently interest rates are below 2.5% for CD's, so leaving $5,000 in a CD for a year would result in earning about $125. The Board members did not think this was a good idea.
  4. David Walter said that he had paid the post office box rent for the year. He also said it would be necessary to file paperwork with the IRS even though CONA takes in less than $25,000 per year in donations and dues.
  5. The Board then discussed CONA membership dues for next year and decided to leave the dues at $30 per neighborhood association. Letters requesting payment of dues will be sent out in January.
  6. Molly O'Donnell reminded Board members that they can register their backyards as a certified Wildlife Habitat for $15 and filling out the application on line at: http://www.nwf.org/backyard/.
  7. Molly O'Donnell and Eve Corrigan reported on the Saturday, January 19, 2008 presentation by Dan Burden, author of "Walkable Communities" as follows:
    1. The invoice for his presentation has been sent on to HAND, He will be paid by CONA and HAND will reimburse CONA after his appearance.
    2. Eve Corrigan is making arrangements for donated refreshments for the Saturday morning presentation and for the evening potluck. The church fee for use of the room is $30.
    3. Dan Burden will be flying into Indianapolis on Friday morning from Boston. Dan has a presentation in Indianapolis that afternoon and a reception that evening before he comes down to Bloomington on Friday night. Dan can stay at Molly O'Donnell's home or he may prefer to day at a local motel. Dan's transportation will be arranged with BTOP members.
    4. Eve Corrigan said that BTOP will handle publicity for the event. The City of Bloomington has approved a flyer for distribution.
    5. Eve Corrigan will arrange with BCAT to film the event. She believes that by having it at City Hall it should be easy to schedule for BCAT.
    6. Board members agreed to assist with the setup and takedown on Saturday. It was agreed that there was too much food and drink last year at the Mark Lakeman presentation.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.
