Minutes of CONA Meeting

7:00 p.m., January 16, 2008

City Hall Building

Business Meeting

  1. The minutes from the December 19, 2007 meeting were approved as corrected.
  2. David Walter reported treasury balances as follows: Checking: $1052.83 and Savings: $7,275.82. An invoice in the amount of $2500 to pay for Dan Burden's speaker's fee has been received. This will be reimbursed by the City of Bloomington grant. Greg Alexander moved approval of this payment, Jerry Stasny seconded the motion and the motion passed.
  3. Jack Baker reported on planning issues. The UDO is up for revision this spring and they are considering including LEED requirements and a requirement for lowering energy consumption. Jack said that North Morton Street is undergoing major new construction work this summer with new ground floor commercial developments that will have apartments on the upper stories. All of these developments have been discussed at previous CONA meetings.
  4. Eve Corrigan reported that this Saturday Dan Burden, author of "Walkable Communities" will be speaking at the Bloomington City Hall Council Chambers. All of the arrangements for his appearance have been made and the presentation will be taped by CATS.
  5. Neighborhood news included Shirley Davis reporting that Sycamore Knolls and Renwick have had their speed limits lowered to 25 mph. Kathy Berry said that a rental house in Arden Place has a problem with their sewer and the tenants cannot get the landlord to repair it. The city is reluctant to force the landlord to close the house and evict the tenants. David Walter reporting that the Hopewell Renewal project has been purchased and the new developer is building the last four duplex units that were authorized as affordable housing. Two duplex units were constructed in 1996 before the developer went bankrupt.
