Bob Woodford made a presentation on HAND's 2008 programs and services for
neighborhood associations (copy attached). Some of the highlights included
the Neighborhood Improvement Grant (minimum $2,000 with 10% match), Small
and Simple Grant (maximum $1000 with 100% match) and Neighborhood Cleanup
(maximum twice a year in different neighborhoods). He also recommended
participating in the Blooming Neighborhood Celebration (June 7), applying
for the Citizen's Academy (starting August 14) and obtaining trash bags for
free pickup of neighborhood trash.
Business Meeting
- The minutes from the January 16, 2008 meeting were approved as
corrected.
- David Walter reported treasury balances as follows: Checking: $552.83
and Savings: $5,276.79. David explained that the reimbursement from
the City of Bloomington for Dan Burden's speaking fee was approved and
would be deposited soon. David also stated that the Post Office Box
rental had been paid, that the required filing of tax forms with the
IRS had been done and that letters were sent to the Neighborhood
Associations requesting that their membership dues of $30.00 be paid.
- The Board discussed Dan Burden's appearance last month. Because CONA
partnered with BTOP, there was plenty of help to arrange publicity,
provide transportation and refreshments as well as to help with the
cleanup. A special thanks to Vickie Provine for reserving the City
Council Chambers is in order. About 100 people attended the
presentation. Several city council members and city staff attended. A
copy of his presentation is available at a nominal cost from the
Bloomington Community Television on DVD if you bring a DVD for burning
to the Monroe County Library offices. The presentation will be aired
on Community Access Television from time to time or upon request.
- It was reported at the last meeting that a house in Arden Place had a
broken sewer line. It appears that the renters have moved out of the
house leaving sacks of garbage. The gas company has shut off the gas
supply to the house and HAND is following up with orders to repair the
damage.
- David Walter reported that the following intersections were scheduled
for work this year: 17th and Fee Lane, Hillside and Henderson, 6th and
Indiana Avenue. Hillside Avenue to Allen Street will get new sidewalks
on the west side and the entrance to Bryan Park will be changed. W.
7th Street may get traffic calming circles and the city will consider
installing a traffic light at the intersection of Henderson and
Atwater by the new IU parking garage.
- Jerry Stasny said that he has had to call Duke Energy to get the old
shoes taken off of the power lines in his neighborhood. He said that
it is common for the kids to put the shoes up on the lines.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.
