Minutes of CONA Meeting

7:00 p.m., June 18, 2008

City Hall Building

Bloomington, Indiana

Business Meeting

  1. The minutes from the May 21, 2008 meeting were approved as corrected.
  2. David Walter reported treasury balances as follows: Checking: $326.48 and Savings: $8,101.25. David reported that Jerry Stasny was making a donation to CONA in the amount of $593.00 designated for Old North East Neighborhood's sidewalk improvement project. David also reported that Green Acres had deposited $100.00 which was an award from the BloomingNeighborhood celebration.
  3. Jerry Stasny attended the BloomingNeighborhood celebration last Saturday. This was the first time in 8 years that it had to be held inside of City Hall due to the heavy rains that day. Awards went to Broadview N.A. for its work on their park and also to Rick Evens from Broadview as "Neighbor of the Year". Elm Heights and McDoel Gardens received certificates for their work in cleaning up their neighborhoods. Neighbor of the Year went to Kevin Polk of Green Acres.
  4. David Walter reported that the City of Bloomington would consider a grant application from CONA again this year. In past years grant funds have paid for neighborhood workshops, speakers on neighborhood issues and for neighborhood representatives to attend the Regional Neighborhood Network Conference.
  5. David Walter provided information on the proposed adoption of a new City Fire Code, the Citizen's Academy, and what items are needed for flood buckets to help people clean up after the recent floods.
  6. Kathy Berry reported that the rental house in Arden Place that had sewer problems and then later was abandoned and left with trash has been reported to the City of Bloomington. She has had no response from HAND, the Solid Waste District or Public Works about the problems.
  7. Sarah Ryterband reported that Prospect Hill neighborhood is now a Conservation District. Their guidelines were accepted by the City Council with no dissention or opposition from neighbors in the area.
