Business Meeting
- The minutes from the June 18, 2008 meeting were approved as corrected.
- David Walter reported treasury balances as follows: Checking: $546.48
and Savings: $8,102.40.
- David Walter reported that the City of Bloomington would consider a
grant application from CONA again this year. The Board discussed
possible grant items such as:
- Sending delegates to the October 2-4 Regional Neighborhood Network
Conference in Lima, Ohio. More information is available at
http://columbuscoalition.org/images/pdf/RNNC_Lima_2008.pdf
- Sponsoring a speaker from Pyatok Architects
http://www.pyatok.com/index.html
or Jonathan Rose
http://www.rose-network.com/
Jonathan Rose Companies LLC and Pyatok Architects are both
primarily
planning companies. Tsort of development they do and
the open (community) planning processes they support definitely
seem
promising. There might be some region of urban blight
that they can discuss with us.
- Visualizing Density (Julie Campoli) http://www.lincolninst.edu/
Visualizing density is a very relevant topic since Bloomington's
dense downtown is growing so quickly, which ultimatelyaffects all
of the neighborhoods. Their emphasis (at least the book titled
Visualizing Density) is on showing people the advantages and
drawbacks of different levels of density.
- David Walter provided information on the proposed adoption of a new
City Fire Code, the Citizen's Academy, and what items are needed for
flood buckets to help people clean up after the recent floods.
- Kathy Berry reported that the rental house in Arden Place that had
sewer problems and then later was abandoned and left with trash has
been reported to the City of Bloomington. She has had no response from
HAND, the Solid Waste District or Public Works about the problems.
- Sarah Ryterband reported that Prospect Hill neighborhood is now a
Conservation District. Their guidelines were accepted by the City
Council with no dissenting votes and no opposition from the
neighborhood residents.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:55 PM.
